Are Online File Tools Safe? How Browser-Based Tools Protect Your Files

By JzeeTools Team · Published October 1, 2026 · 2 min read

Some sites upload your documents to a server. Others process them on your device. Here is the difference and how to check for yourself.

When you use an online PDF or image tool, it is fair to ask where your file goes. Many services upload it to their servers, process it there and send the result back. Others do the work inside your browser, so the file never leaves your computer or phone.

Two kinds of online tools

  1. Server-based tools send your file over the internet. They may store it for a short time, and you rely on their security and deletion policy.
  2. Browser-based tools use code running on your own device. The file is read in your browser and the result is created there.

The tools on JzeeTools are built the second way. The documents you choose are not uploaded to our servers.

How to check any tool yourself

  1. Open your browser's developer tools. On most computers press F12.
  2. Go to the Network tab and clear the list.
  3. Run the tool on a file.
  4. Look at the requests. If your file is being uploaded, you will see a large outgoing request. With a browser-based tool you will not see one. You may still see requests for fonts, code libraries or ads, which do not contain your file.

Good habits, whichever tool you use

What browser-based tools cannot do

Because everything happens on your device, very large files can be slow on older phones, and some jobs, such as accurate scanned-text recognition, need heavier software. That trade-off is the price of keeping your files private.
